Shuttle service a boon for sick

The Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here will be introducing a localised shuttle service for the public to go to its wards and clinics.

Two vans, each with a capacity to take 14 passengers, will pick up passengers at five zones in the hospital compound. A trial run starts today.

The zones are the hospital’s Emergency Department, Ambulatory Care Centre, nursing hostel, maternity ward hall and maternity parking area.
“Visitors and patients can park their vehicles in the vicinity of the hospital, walk a short distance to the zones and wait for the shuttle vans to transport them to either the wards or clinics,” Perak Health Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said yesterday.

“The vans will make their rounds to pick them up between 7am and 7pm from Monday to Friday except on weekends and public holidays,” he said after presenting ang pow packets to 34 children at the hospital’s paediatric ward.

Signboards on the shuttle service have been put up around the hospital.
The service, which is free, has been introduced to overcome the problem of visitors and patients having to park their vehicles far from the clinics and wards.

Dr Mah also said the upgraded and advanced version of the Computed Tomographic (CT) scans and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) services, which cost RM20 million, would be in operation at the hospital by the end of the month.

MRI is a non-invasive way to take pictures of the body while CT scan is a non-invasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.
