Tenang a ‘turning point’ for Pas-DAP relationship

IPOH: The result of the Tenang by-election on Sunday, which saw Barisan Nasional winning with a bigger majority, may well be a turning point in the Pas-DAP relationship, says Gerakan deputy president Datuk Chang Ko Youn.

Chang, who is also special adviser to Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, said he believed that Pas would review its strategies in terms of its working relationship with the Chinese-dominated DAP.

“The hard lesson that Pas can learn is that the DAP is very Chinese-centric in its approach,” he told reporters after presenting aid to students and non-governmental organisations here yesterday.
Chang said the recent by-election would serve as a reminder to Pas on the limitations of working with the DAP, adding that Pas could not take the risk of forsaking the Malay votes.

On the Chinese support for BN, he said it was still unsatisfactory and that more work needed to be done to attract them to the ruling party.

“The Chinese support is still low for BN. We need to raise the support level to be at par with the support given by the community in the 2004 general election.”
