Hishammuddin to sue Anwar

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has appointed a lawyer to institute legal action against PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for accusing him and the police of being behind a sex video recently exposed by three Datuks.

It is learnt that he has appointed Tan Sri Cecil Abraham of law firm Zul Rafique and Partners to undertake the case.

Hishammuddin’s press secretary Nik Ahmad Khusairi Nik Ibrahim, who confirmed the engagement of the lawyer, said the suit is expected to be filed tomorrow.

Asked whether the suit is on his own capacity or on behalf of the police, Nik Ahmad Khusairi said it has yet to be decided as the minister is awaiting the lawyer’s advice on this.

“But, most probably it is on his own capacity as home minister and as Hishammuddin … most probably he is not going to involve the police force,” Nik Ahmad Khusairi said.

A week ago the sex video of a man said to resemble Anwar and a woman was shown to a selected group of editors and journalists at the Carcosa Seri Negara by a man who went by the name “Datuk T”.

Two days later “Datuk T” was unveiled as the moniker for a Datuk Trio – three people comprising former Malacca chief minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Tamby Chik, businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and Perkasa treasurer Datuk Shuib Lazim.

Anwar, who had denied he was the man in the video, alleged that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, Hishammuddin and the police were involved in exposing the sex video.

Following Anwar’s allegation, Hishammuddin warned that he would not hesitate to sue the opposition leader if he continued to make disparaging statements against him and the police force.

Last Thursday, Abdul Rahim and Shazryl were grilled by police for five hours at Bukit Aman and the following day Shuib was called in.

Last Friday, federal police secretary DCP Datuk Ghazali Mohd Amin issued a statement that three men had been arrested for questioning and released on bail without revealing their identities.

However, it is understood the three men were Abdul Rahim, Shazryl and Shuib.

Police remain tight-lipped over the case’s developments but in a statement late today, Ghazali said police are trying to verify the authenticity of the evidence they have gathered so far with the help of experts.

He urged all parties to be patient and not to speculate about the case but to allow the police to carry out their investigations.-sun2surf
