PM Najib: Government rolling out policies in response to needs.

KUALA LUMPUR: It’s a new era where the people’s expectations determine how the government is run and the policies it makes.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said gone were the days when it was commonly thought that the government knew everything.
Hailing the new era as one that brought the nation forward, he said the Government Transformation Programme was the perfect example of how the administration was responding to this change demanded by the people.

“We have changed and have been humbled by the fact that the era has changed,” he said when unveililng the 2010 GTP annual report at Stadium Putra in Bukit Jalil last night.

“We have realised that people have placed high hopes on the administration. People want to live in peace, be safe and enjoy and comfortable and quality life.”
Najib said there had been many big and heartening “wins” in the past year and the government was pleased by these outcomes.

“Despite being only in the first year of implementation, all the initiatives in the National Key Result Areas (NKRAs) have performed well.”

Najib said many of the National Key Performance Indicators (NKPIs) had also been met or exceeded their targets.
He added that all the initiatives would be monitored by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“He will coordinate all the actions taken, especially by the lead ministers involved in the NKRAs.”

The four-hour event was attended by cabinet members and about 10,000 people who were kept entertained by performing local artists.

Najib said the GTP objectives were a big agenda for the government and they were rolled out to radically transform the way government worked so that real solutions could be found to issues.

He said the detailed programmes were based on the government’s commitment to “1Malaysia, People First, Performance Now”.

In the area of crime reduction, for instance, nationwide crime had been reduced for the first time in four years.

“I was in Muar last night and the police told me that street crimes there had been reduced by 50 per cent.”

Najib said all these achievements did not come easy or without obstacles. They were only made possible through time and effort.

“We kept on track through sheer determination and readiness to work as a team for the nation. All these will only make us work harder.”
