Keith Flint and MotoGP suppliers FTR Moto gave us a spin at Silverstone!
Bona fide bike fiend Keith Flint took delivery of his FTR Moto2 Elf bike and gave us a few laps. Nice!

It’s either in the running to be the ultimate trackday ‘tool’ or a bike you buy because you fancy getting a wildcard ride the next time the MotoGP circus rolls into town. Basically, you’ve got your very own full-factory Moto2 spec chassis, tyres, suspension and running gear with which you can enter a Grand Prix. (OK it will be a wee bit more complicated than that, but you get the drift, this is the same spec bike – apart from the control engine – that FTR supplied to riders in the Moto2 class in 2010).

Keith Flint, the mild-mannered Prodigy frontman and trackday fanatic, purchased this Ron Haslam Elf ‘replica’ and was handed the ‘keys’ at Silverstone last Friday and we were lucky enough to be offered a few laps on the carbon-fibre covered jewel. We say ‘keys’ because you bump start the ultra-compact 136kg machine. (Thanks Steve and Norris!)

In actual fact we only enjoyed one out lap, one flying lap and an in lap on Keith’s new toy (which is fair enough really) and plans for more laps on a ‘spare’ bike were beset by technical gremlins. And, just to add to the fun, it was the first day we had been at the new (impressive) Silverstone GP circuit.

So we didn’t really get any chance at all to make any kind of assessment of the bike excpet to note that it was stiff at the back, felt nice at the front, was tiny and tucked up (knees on elbows, boot heels where they didn’t want to be) but felt like it would be a whole ton of fun once you set it up for your riding ability and desires.
