IPOH: A RM200 million Disneyland-type theme park is expected to be set up at Perak’s technology hub in Meru Raya here by the end of the year.

Les’ Copaque Production Sdn Bhd, which produced the hit Upin and Ipin animated TV series and movie, has received the go-ahead from the Perak state government to start a feasibility study on the project.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said Les’ Copaque submitted a proposal last month to develop a theme park based on the successful Upin and Ipin animated series.
“The state government has given its green light to the company’s proposal to set up a Disneyland-type theme park at the MSC Cybercentre.

“The theme park proposal is a great idea and is in line with the state’s vision to develop an information and communications technology hub in Meru Raya.”

Zambry was speaking after launching KPerak’s “ICT Perak Carnival With Upin and Ipin” at the Indera Mulia Stadium yesterday afternoon.
He said a theme park would be an important attraction for Ipoh.

“I believe in the theme park idea and its promise of attracting droves of tourists to Perak, especially Ipoh. I am confident that it will provide good returns on the investment for Les’ Copaque.”

Also present were KPerak chief executive officer Dr Ahmad Kamil Mahmood and Les’ Copaque managing director Burhanuddin Md Radzi.
Zambry said he had instructed the Perak State Development Corporation to assist the state government find suitable land at the MSC Cybercentre for the theme park.

He expected the theme park to be set up by the end of the year.

The three-day carnival, which ends today, is expected to draw about 50,000 visitors.
