BOOKIE SENT TO THE GALLOWS FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING

GEORGE TOWN, July 8 (Bernama) — A gambling bookie was sentenced to death by the High Court here today after he was found guilty of trafficking in 913.2gm of heroin and 11.8gm of monoacetylmorphines three years ago.

Justice Mohd Amin Firdaus Abdullah made the decision after finding that the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubt against the prosecution’s case.

was charged with trafficking in the drugs in a room at Hotel Malaysia, Jalan Penang, about 3pm on Jan 24, 2008.

Tang , who was clad in blue jeans and white T-shirt looked calm when the judge handed down the sentence.

Deputy public prosecutor L. Uma Devi prosecuted, while lawyer Gooi Soon Seng represented Tang.
