BR1M Fulfils People’s Needs – Muhyiddin

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has stressed that the distribution of the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) was not based on ‘political factor’, as alleged by the opposition.

Rather, it proved the country’s economy was in a strong position, he said.

He said, handing out the aid was not made arbitrarily as it was based on the findings of the government via various sessions with the people on the ground.

Muhyiddin said the prime minister had stated that although BR1M had not been carried out before, the people were in need of the assistance.

“The prime minister has also stated that we have the funds as we have reduced the national deficit and saved on expenditure, while our economy has also grown 5.2 per cent,” he said at a BR1M handing-over ceremony involving 3,500 recipients at the Beringin People’s Housing Project in the Batu parliamentary constituency here Friday.

On BR1M, Muhyiddin said there were parties which alleged the people’s aid was merely to buy votes in the coming general election (GE).

The deputy prime minister emphasised that BR1M was not a question of garnering support in the GE but aimed at fulfilling the people’s needs.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin announced an allocation of RM600,000 for the construction of a surau in the housing area and approved, in principle, the construction of a RM3 million hall.
