RPK reveals culprits behind sand mining in Selangor

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Today editor Raja Petra Kamaruddin revealed that two Selangor assemblymen were involved in sand mining operations in the state since 2009.

He said in an article on Thursday that the duo were registered as directors of a company which applied to mine sand in Dengkil.

The article said that one of the assemblymen had met a sand contractor to discuss mining in May 2009. The contractor was told to submit an application to Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd, a state-owned company involved in the mining and sales of sand.

The article said a meeting was held at the assemblyman’s office where he instructed the contractor to start a company to apply to mine sand in a 45-acre site in Dengkil.

The application was backed by the other assemblyman via a “letter of support.”

According to the article, the assemblyman had contacted the sand contractor in various instances to ask for money to be used for “Ramadhan expenses” and election campaign funds and for other “payments.”

Raja Petra said that he would reveal more “shenanigans in Selangor” and that he had just started on the scandal.

In an earlier article, he had alleged that Datuk Patrick Wong, the former president of the Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM), was murdered in connection with gathering evidence on the sand mining scandal.
