Floods force 36 to evacuate in Teluk Intan

IPOH: Thirty-six people have been evacuated after three villages in Teluk Intan, about 120km south of here, were flooded following heavy rain Friday evening, police said Saturday.

Hilir Perak police chief ACP Goh Kok Liang said the evacuees are from Kampung Ayer Hitam, Kampung Tengah and Kampung SC and are being accommodated at the Kampung Ayer Hitam community hall.

He said the Bidor river burst its banks and floodwaters rose up to 0.5 metre in the three villages.

Altogether, 200 people were affected by the floods but only 36 were moved out, he said.

Personnel from the Fire & Rescue Department, Social Welfare Department and Civil Defence Department as well as policemen helped in the evacuation, he said.
