The water level rose in Jalan Duta, especially near the Court Complex and Jalan Semantan loop causing bumper-to-bumper traffic for hours.
The Malaysian Highway Authority said the normal weekday traffic worsened due to the rain.
Apart from the after-office congestion at the usual roads, jams were reported in Jalan Tun Razak, Bukit Jalil, Jalan Duta, parts of the LDP and Sprint Highway leading out of the city.
Traffic was also congested on the NKVE from Shah Alam to Damansara, and leading to the Jalan Duta toll plaza.
The rain also caused flash flood at the Segambut roundabout. Officials said the flood subsided an hour later but the roads surrounding it remained clogged for hours after that.
Several villages in Segambut were also affected by the floods due to poor infrastructure.
“The retaining wall collapsed during a heavy downpour in August but have yet to be repaired.
“I hope the wall would be repaired soon as we are heading for the monsoon and anticipate heavy rain until the year end,” Segambut Bahagia Residents’ Association chairman Mohamad Ishak Sidin said.
