Indra the hero as Kelantan emerge Malaysia Cup champs

SHAH ALAM: Indra Putra Mahayuddin was the hero for Kelantan as the Red Warriors downed Armed Forces 3-2 to emerge Malaysia Cup champions at the Shah Alam Stadium here on Sunday.

The 31-year-old former international scored a superb goal six minutes into extra-time play to give Kelantan their third silverware of the season.

Kelantan, who have already won the FA Cup and Super League crown this season, went into the breather leading 1-0, thanks to a strike by Norshahrul Idlan Talaha in the 43rd.

Armed Forces levelled the score just four minutes into the second half through Rezal Zambery Yahya.

But before the soldiers had even finished celebrating their equaliser, Norshahrul (50th minute) struck again to put Kelantan ahead.

Marlon Alex James, however, was on target in the 62nd minute to level the score at 2-2 and force the match into extra-time.

But Indra’s goal in the 96th minute proved to be the match decider.

Armed Forces goalkeeper Mohd Farizal Harun could do nothing as the midfielder’s shot on-the-run from the right sailed into the top left corner of goal.
