KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional Bhd posted a net profit of RM1.4bil (US$460mil) in its first quarter ending Nov 30, 2012.
That compared to a loss of RM76.4mil in the same period a year earlier.
The better result was due mainly to lower generation costs and foreign exchange gains, Tenaga said in a statement on Wednesday.
It recorded revenue of RM9.13bil.
Operating costs fell 9.6% due to the recognition of fuel cost compensation during the quarter, while lower coal prices resulted in lower generation costs, said the company.
Shares in Tenaga ended 0.58% higher at RM6.96 per share.
