Ahmad Zahid: Rumours of intrusion do not rattle security forces

ZAHID HAMIDI

KOTA BARU: The nation’s security is not rattled by rumours of another intrusion by Kiram terrorists and security forces are up for the challenge, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said security forces did not take the rumours lightly and have tightened control of security in Sabah.

“Although I doubt that the letter saying that terrorists will come to unleash violence in Sabah is real, we still investigate its origin.

“The people of Sabah need not worry and do not listen to rumours. Security forces are always on alert and have enough officers, men and equipment,” he told reporters.

Ahmad Zahid was visiting Insp Farid Hasni Mamat, 33, who lost his right leg in an accident in Kuala Besut at Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital, Kubang Kerian here.

He added that security cooperation with the Philippines remained close to ensure that the movement into Sabah was closely monitored.

On the condition of Farid Hasni, he said the traffic officer was stable and still receiving treatment at the hospital.

“I have checked and found that he will receive insurance payment while the prosthetic leg will be handled by PDRM (the police).

“He is in high spirit and after recovery, I will ensure that he can continue to serve the police force in whatever capacity,” he added.
