KUALA LUMPUR: Bidding for new car registration numbers (plate numbers) for all vehicles in Kuala Lumpur, which began last Tuesday, will close on Monday noon.
Results for successful bids will be announced on Sept 2, and can be checked on the Road Transport Department (RTD) website, www.jpj.gov.my.
Once the “WYY” series ends, the new series will start with “W (1 to 9999) A”, once the “WYY” series ends.
The following series will start from “W (1 to 9999) B”, followed by “W (1 to 9999) C” and ends with “WYY (1 to 9999) Y”.
A RTD source said bidders would have to pay 50 per cent of the bid value. Bidding opens at RM310.
Those interested can submit their tender forms to the Kuala Lumpur RTD office in Setapak or at its branches in Maju Junction Mall, Bandar Sri Permaisuri and the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) at Pudu Sentral.
Last year, the WWW 1 plate number recorded the highest bid, going for RM520,000. The highest bid previously was for MCA 1, which was sold for RM300,100.
The WWW series received 18,243 bids, with a revenue of RM11.3 million, which was 10 times the amount collected from other series sold before it.
As of 5pm yesterday, the current series stands at WYU 7XXX.
