GEORGE TOWN: While many elsewhere are asking that eateries charge different prices for beverages with sugar and those without, a Malay food eatery owner here has been doing just that for the last two years.

Ismadi Ismail, 42, who operates Adismira Corner in Sungai Tiram, Bayan Lepas, said he had not increased the prices of his drinks since he opened his eatery in 2011.

“I do not plan to do it now even with the increase in sugar price.

“I feel that it is only fair to charge less for drinks without sugar.

“A large glass of teh tarik costs RM1.20 and a glass of teh ‘o’ costs RM1.00.

“Any drink without sugar and milk is priced 10 sen lower than the ones without milk,” he said at his outlet.

Ismadi added that only two out of 100 customers would order drinks without sugar.

“The number is very small, so many operators tend not to have a separate list for drinks without sugar,” he said.
