Genting bus crash report ready for submission to Cabinet

crashbusgentingKUALA LUMPUR: The report on the Genting Highlands bus tragedy that claimed 37 lives in August will be handed over to the special independent committee before it is tabled in Cabinet, said Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abd Aziz Kaprawi.

“The report is competed and will be submitted to the committee chaired by Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye by next week.

“It will then be handed over to the Transport Minister and tabled in Cabinet,” he told reporters in Parliament lobby.

The committee was set up following the accident following investigations carried out by various agencies such as the Road Transport Department, police and Malaysian Institute of Road Safety.

Abd Aziz cited speeding, road conditions and the road guard railing as factors listed in the report.

On Aug 21, a bus ferrying 53 passengers plunged into a 60m ravine at about 3pm near Genting Highlands killing 37 onboard and injuring 16 others.

Initial investigations were unable to pinpoint the exact cause of the accident. It was confirmed that 44-year-old bus driver Lim Kok Hoe, who was also killed in the accident, had 15 traffic summonses for speeding.
