PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal and Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein took to Twitter to celebrate retaining their vice-presidents’ posts in the Umno elections Saturday.

From his @mohdshafieapdal account, the Rural and Regional Development Minister was the first to rejoice on Saturday night with “Alhamdulillah alhamdulillah alhamdulillah” (Praise to God, praise to God, praise to God).

With Sunday being his birthday, Shafie later added: “Thank you for the birthday wishes, grateful to Allah, thanks for the support given.”

Home Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid, who had shared a picture of him seeking blessings from his father before heading to the Putra World Trade Centre on Saturday, tweeted with another Instagram early Sunday, thanking all delegates for “fully believing” in him.

As for Defence Minister Hishammuddin, two tweets were sent from @HishammuddinH2O to thank “all Umno delegates who fulfilled their responsibility as members.”

The acting Transport Minister also thanked all his Twitterjaya friends for “messages and congratulations too numerous for me to personally answer one by one. Grateful.”

Dr Ahmad Zahid had retained his position with 185 electoral college votes from 191 divisions. Shafie won 174 ballots, while Hishammuddin snagged third spot with 100 votes.

Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, who received 91 votes, had expressed gratitude to his supporters ahead of the results on Friday: “Millions of thanks to friends who have persistently campaigned for me to be chosen as Umno vice-president. Once effort has been made, it is up to Allah SWT.”
