Cop feared dead, one-year-old son found drowned

rescuebodyHalifAkimNIBONG TEBAL: A family fishing trip became a tragedy when a policeman and his one-year-old son fell into Sungai Udang near Kampung Acheh here.

Lans-Corporal Abdul Halim Ibrahim, 52, who was attached to the Batu Kawan police station is feared drowned while the body of his one-year-old son, Mohd Halif Akim, was found at about 12.30pm Sunday.

It is learnt that Abdul Halim, his wife and two children had gone for a fishing trip at the river Saturday afternoon when the incident happened at about 6pm.

Penang deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk A. Thaiveegan said 27 divers from Bomba, police and marine police were involved in the search and rescue.

“We are working around the clock to locate the victim now,” he said.
