SEGAMAT: Segamat MP Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam described the drowning of eight teenagers as the biggest tragedy to occur in Buloh Kasap.

He has requested that the state Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) conduct an in-depth study on the river.

Dr Subramaniam, who is also the Health Minister, urged the families of the victims to be patient and pray that the remaining bodies would be discovered soon.

“If the river poses a danger to the lives of the community here, then a warning sign should be put up,” he said when met at the scene here yesterday.

The drowning of the teenagers have caused shockwave in the small town here as hundreds of residents thronged the Sungai Muar to watch the search and rescue mission conducted by the state Fire and Rescue Department.

This is the third time that a drowning incident has occurred at the river. The two other cases occurred in 2012 and last year.
