Muhyiddin: BN to study public bill for hudud

GEORGE TOWN: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said it was imperative Barisan Nasional study the private bill for hudud proposed by the Pas-led Kelantan government before announcing its official stance on the matter.

He said this was important because the matter has not been fully explained by the Kelantan government.

“We want to know the process and procedures.

“We must make sure the proposed hudud is the true hudud in Islam.

“Although there are Muslims and non-Muslims in Barisan Nasional, we must still study and consider it and we will make our stance known when the time comes,” he told reporters after chairing a closed door meeting with Penang Umno leaders here today.

On a personal note, Muhyiddin said as Muslims, they must be together on the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.

“This is about hukum and is provided in our religion.

“We have to accept it and it would not be right if we try to oppose it.

“However, we still need to know in what form will the hudud be,” he said when asked on the proposed private bill for hudud by the Kelantan government.

Meanwhile in Kuala Lumpur, four Chinese-based parties, Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), Gerakan, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) will not support the billing of a private members’ bill which, if passed, will pave the way for the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.
