Ipoh City Council staff forced by robbers to drink weed killer dies

IPOH: An Ipoh City Council general worker has died, two days after he was forced to swallow paraquat during a robbery.

M. Anandhan, 43, died at 5.16am at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here where he had sought treatment following the attack.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said Anandhan was heading towards a temple at about 6.10am on Thursday on his way to work when he was forced to stop by three men claiming to be policemen.

He said Anandhan refused to hand over his identity card to the men and one of them pulled out a knife.

“During the struggle, paraquat was forced down the deceased’s throat as he was held from behind.

“The robbers took RM100 from the deceased’s wallet and fled on their motorcycles,” he said.

ACP Sum said a medical report confirmed that traces of the weed killer were found in the deceased’s urine.
