KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday paid tribute to mothers for their sacrifices and the responsibilities they shoulder.

In a tweet yesterday, the prime minister paid tribute to his mother, Tun Rahah Mohd Noah, and shared a picture of him kissing her hand.

“Nothing is more noble than the task and role of a mother,” was the caption of the photograph.

Tun Rahah was 19 when she married the late second prime minister Tun Abdul Razak, who was then 30.

She raised five sons. Najib is the eldest. The others are Ahmad Johari, Mohamed Nizam, Mohamed Nazim and Mohd Nazir.

In another tweet, Najib said his thoughts were with the mothers of 276 Nigerian schoolgirls who were abducted by Boko Haram militants.

“This Mother’s Day, we are thinking of the mothers of the 276 Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram recently #BringBackOurGirls.”

The girls were kidnapped from their boarding school on the night of April 14, in the village of Chibok in northeastern Borno state, near the Cameroon border while taking an examination.

Fifty of them escaped, while the fate of the others is unknown.
