GEORGE TOWN: SOME 200 retired civil servants and those retiring this year received certificates of appreciation from Public Service Department director-general Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal at Dewan Sri Pinang, here, recently.

The awards ceremony was held in recognition of the retirees and others who had served the government departments in various capacities.

Zabidi launched the “Every Pensioner is a VIP” programme.

A presentation on the recently-launched 1Malaysia Civil Service Retirement Support portal was also screened.

The portal is aimed at safeguarding the welfare of retired civil servants. It provides information on the wellbeing and welfare of pensioners as well as on entrepreneurship, financial management and healthcare.

The audience also heard a lecture on how to manage their retirement funds.

Those present included retired teachers, policemen and doctors.
