Concert to celebrate ties

KUALA LUMPUR: IN replicating China’s efforts in appreciating the 40th anniversary of bilateral ties, Malaysia will hold a similar concert at Istana Budaya on Friday and Saturday.

Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, said the concert would be “meaningful, historical and entertaining”.

She said 120 Permata Seni students had practised tirelessly to give their best for the concert.

“The performance is free but passes will be given out to ensure seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis,” said Rosmah.

The concert, themed “Friendship Across Generations”, is a symbol of appreciation of the close ties between the two nations, she said.

Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said the long-term ties between China and Malaysia was obviously not a planned one.

“Who would have known (Najib) would be carrying on the legacy of continuing bilateral efforts?

“The pandas loaned to us by the Chinese government are symbols of trust and a significant token of friendship.”

The concert is expected to be attended by non-governmental organisations, VIPs from both countries, National Service Training Programme trainees and students from institutions of higher learning.

Free passes for the concert can be obtained at the Istana Budaya office from tomorrow.
