Khalid unfazed at vote of no confidence

ABDUL KHALID IBRAHIM / SHAH ALAM

SUBANG JAYA : Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim was unfazed at the possibility of a vote of no confidence towards him.

He said it could happen as it was provided for under Selangor law.

“A vote of no confidence is provided under the state enactment so anything can happen according to the law,” he said after attending a breaking fast event with Selangor media at Holiday Villa Subang.

However, he refused to speculate whether he felt there would be assemblymen who would support such a vote.

He also denied that a move by Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) to review its subsidiaries’ boards of directors was a ploy to remove his political adversaries.

He said they will only review subsidiaries if MBI felt they can improve the performance and if not, they will not review it.

“We always thought we should review our performance.

“For example today at the state financial meeting, it was suggested that we should continuously monitor the performance of our government-linked corporations as part of the state’s assets and resources.

“For that, among the areas that we should focus is the management and the representation of the management,” he said, adding that they had not come up with a solution to that yet but the federal government treasury has already written a paper on some of the restructuring of government’s company organisations.

He was commenting on a statement issued by MBI chief executive officer Faekah Husin earlier yesterday saying that MBI will be reviewing the performance of subsidiaries under its corporation to improve its performance.

This includes a revision of the positions of state government-owned subsidiaries’ chairmen and board of directors.

When asked why Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS) was not being reviewed in this move, Abdul Khalid said it was a government body under the PKNS Act and therefore the state executive council had the right to decide on the representation of PKNS.

Earlier, Faekah said the review will occur in stages and will begin with Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB) and Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB).

“This move is to ensure the appointed board of directors consists of qualified professionals who are experienced and capable of improving the subsidiaries and carry out the policies and aspirations of the state government.

There are 12 MBI subsidiaries including KSSB, PNSB, Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad (KDEB), Pusat Pelaburan Negeri Selangor (SSIC), Pendidikan Industri YS Sdn Bhd (PIYSSB), Tourism Selangor Sdn Bhd, Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd, Majlis Sukan Negeri Selangor Holdings Sdn Bhd, Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (YAWAS), Communication Corporation Sdn Bhd (CCSB), Bukit Beruntung Golf & Country Resort Berhad and Yayasan Dar Al Qard Al Hasan Selangor.
