PM Najib: Strong teamwork from civil servants needed

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has stressed on the need of strong teamwork from the civil servants to push the government to greater heights.

Citing the success of the German football team to clinch the World Cup, he said the team’s victory was based on “individual brilliance and commitment to teamwork”.

“When we manage to consolidate individuals on the spirit of cooperation, our achievement will be bigger,” said Najib at the Treasury Excellent Award 2013 ceremony.

A total of 75 recipients had been chosen for their excellent track record.

Also present were Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Mohamad Hanadzlah and Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah.

Najib, who is also the Finance Minister, said Malaysia had done well economically and managed to improve its competitive edge this year.

“Our economic growth has been encouraging with GDP rose to 6.2 per cent in the first quarter of this year.

“We have also done well in terms of our competitiveness. For the World Bank Doing Business 2014, Malaysia has risen to 6th placing from 12th placing last year.

‘IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook 2014 has pushed Malaysia’s competitiveness from 15th placing last year to 12th placing this year,” he added.
