JOHOR BARU: Known for decorating his cars with patriotic motifs, businessman M. Kandapan has decided to take things one step further by dressing himself in the Jalur Gemilang as well.

The 54-year-old said that he had specially designed five different outfits made from flags, which he plans to wear as Merdeka nears.

Kandapan said that this year, he had four different cars decorated with patriotic motifs.

He added that he was also organising a convoy of cars that would don flags from each state in the country on Aug 31.

”For now, I am going to different schools to meet students and spur on their patriotic spirit,” he said, adding that he had visited two schools so far.

Kandapan, who has been decorating his cars for more than 13 years, said he had always been greeted with smiles and waves by the public.

He said that some people did criticise him for going over the top, but added that such negative remarks would not deter him.

This year, the patriotic motifs for the four cars included pictures of iconic Malaysians, including Tun Tan Cheng Lock and Tun V.T. Sambanthan.

”I also have the pictures of our current and past prime ministers on several cars and a huge tiger on the back of my own car, which is the symbol for the state football team,” he said, adding that the decorations cost him about RM30,000.
