Gala dinner marks end of festival

GEORGE TOWN: MORE than 3,000 people turned up for a gala dinner held in conjunction with the 6th Tua Peh Kong (God of Prosperity) and the 7th International FuDe Cultural Festival at Han Chiang High School here recently.

The dinner was the culmination of a three-day festival organised by the Penang Poh Hock Seah Temple in Armenian Street.

Delegates from sister associations in China, Taiwan, Macau, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Myanmar and throughout Malaysia were among the guests.

Souvenirs were presented to the delegates and their representatives during the event.

Organising chairman of Poh Hock Seah Temple, Lim Hooi Kooi said it was the first time the festival was held in West Malaysia and the congregation of idols from the participants was also another first in the history of the festival.

“A procession which started and ended at the Poh Hock Seah attracted more than 50 floats accompanied by more than 10,000 devotees, wound round the city’s streets over a five-hour journey,” said Lim.

“All delegates had to bring along their idols,” he said.

He said the delegations and their respective idols would return to their countries after a ceremony at the Poh Hock Seah Temple.
