Give more support to women traders, Govt urged

KUALA LUMPUR: The Government needs to give more support to women traders and entrepreneurs, says Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

The Special Adviser to the Prime Minister for Women and Social Development Affairs called for more funding for both groups in the 2015 Budget.

“The Government has to give more incentives to women traders and entrepreneurs, as it is harder for them to get loans although women have a good track record in paying up,” she said at the launch of the second Pasar Wanita (Pasarnita) Car Boot Sale here yesterday.

A start-up capital of at least RM100,000, she added, was needed to start a business.

Shahrizat said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) should also provide a wholesale market site for women traders and entrepreneurs from the Klang Valley and other states.

Housewife Rosnita Isahar, 35, was happy to take part in the Pasarnita, saying she found it difficult to sell her homemade food online.

Pasarnita is organised by DBKL and the Women Entrepreneurship and Professional Development Department.
