KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia urges all parties to refrain from acts that would only prolong the conflicts in the middle east which had violate the international humanitarian law.
Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said it was vital for all parties concerned to seek resolve and seek peaceful reconciliation to end their respective conflicts for the sake of the people.
“We urge all parties to refrain from acts that will only prolong the conflict which contribute to further violence and seek for peaceful reconciliation,” he said in a statement after the OIC foreign ministers annual coordination meeting in New York on Friday.
Citing an example with the conflict in Palestine, he said the onus was on the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to persevere in fighting for the Palestinians’ wellbeing, as their plight remains unresolved.
“Malaysia wishes to pay tribute to the members of our organisation (OIC) who played important parts in securing a long-term ceasefire agreement between Israel and Palestine on Aug 26.
“We hope that both parties will honour the agreement by exercising utmost restraint to avoid creating any provocation.”
He said those who have violated international law, international human rights law and international humanitarian law in the occupied state of Palestine must be bring to justice.
“We must give support to the Commission of Inquiry launched by the Human Rights Council. The United Nations Security Council needs to take action to hold Israel accountable for its actions,” he said.
Anifah said Malaysia has also expressed its distress over violence and conflicts at several OIC countries, including Syria, Iraq, and Libya which has seen many of their people killed.
On another matter, Anifah said that in the context of national reconciliation, Malaysia has played its role as facilitator to bring peace to the situation in the Southern Philippines.
“A Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro was signed on March 27 between the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).”
He added Malaysia continued to also contribute efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.
“The Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Myanmar and (Malaysia’s) former Foreign Affairs Minister Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar, has made some progress in this regard.
“OIC member states should support the work of the Special Envoy to make him more successful,” he said.
