GEORGE TOWN: Seri Delima assemblyman R.S.N. Rayer (pic) was released by the police at about 4am Tuesday.

Rayer who is also the Seri Delima Penang Voluntary Patrol (PPS) chief was detained on Monday when he went to northeast district police headquarters to handle the release of PPS members who were arrested after Penang state level National Day Parade.

He was the second DAP assemblyman who has been detained in connection with the PPS issue.

PPS chairman and state executive councillor Phee Boon Poh who was detained on Sunday was released at 6.05pm the next day.

According to Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik who was at the northeast district police headquarters to check on the release of Rayer said he understood that Rayer would be released at 7am to 8am on Tuesday.

“However, after a check with the police, George Town OCPD (Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid) confirmed the release had been done at 4am.

“Rayer is currently resting at home,” he said.

Earlier, ACP Mior said Rayer was arrested and investigated under Section 43 of the Societies Act 1966 for being a member of an unlawful society.

The offence carries a maximum of three years jail, or a RM5,000 fine, or both, if convicted.

Meanwhile, all the 156 PPS members who were remanded under the same section have been released on Monday.
