KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak warned Selangor Umno to run a tight ship or risk losing the state for a third consecutive time.

The prime minister, who is also Umno president said Selangor Umno should also do a reality check on its approach, as the same formula which it had adopted in the previous terms did not yield the desired outcome.

“For example, the approach we used in rural areas should not be employed in semi-urban or urban areas.

“We should start devising new ways to better understand the voters,” said Najib. He also said the state liaison was lethargic in its approach to increase party membership.

“I was told by party secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor that the developments in Selangor are not so encouraging.

“We must do more… ‘tak boleh lembab’ (cannot be slow). We have to start now,” said Najib in his speech at the Selangor Umno 2014 Convention at Putra World Trade Centre.

Also present was Umno state liaison chief Datuk Seri Noh Omar.
