East Coast flood: UMT students stranded, given emergency leave until further notice

KUALA TERENGGANU: Students of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) have been given leave from today due to the worsening flood situation at and around the campus.

The university management has sent out emails to students who have been stranded in the campus the past several days as the road in front of the campus is flooded.

The email said the emergency leave is until further notice.

A student told NST Online that only a handful of cafeterias within the campus are open and food supply is running low.

“Although we are given leave, we cannot leave the campus due to the flood. About 3,000 of us are still here,” she said.

Flood situation in the East coast has worsened with part of the coastal road in Batu Rakit collapsed early this morning.

Four districts in Terengganu are still affected but the number of evacuees has dropped to 2,503 from 2,543 yesterday evening.
