IGP: Sabah is safe to visit

KUALA LUMPUR: The Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar (pic) said Sabah is safe to visit.

Khalid said this following recent comment by Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz that the safety of tourists in the state could not be guaranteed until two recent kidnappings were resolved.

“It (Sabah) is still safe, there are still plenty of tourists going there,” he said during a press conference after speaking at the International Conference on Law, Order and Criminal Justice on Tuesday.

Khalid said while there were recent breaches by kidnappers along Sabah’s east coast, steps had and were continuously taken to ensure the security in the area.

He declined to comment on the current situation of the kidnappings as he claimed that it might put the Malaysian hostages in further danger.
