Marine cops nab 13 Indonesian pirates in Johor

JOHOR BARU: The Marine Police have arrested 13 Indonesian pirates off Teluk Ramunia shores in Kota Tinggi.

Southern Region Two marine police Asst Comm Paul Khiu Khon Chiang said Sunday that during a routine patrol by the force at around 7.30pm on Oct 31, they spotted a stationery fibre boat and a ship.

He said the patrol unit approached the boat to investigate and found nine men seated in the boat.

“We immediately deployed backup to the scene about 2.5 nautical miles from the shore and after a thorough check, we found another four men hiding in the ship’s crew bedroom,” he said in a press conference here Sunday.

He added that they found weapons used by the men for their illegal activities including 10 parang, 10 facemasks, cables and tools.
