ALOR SETAR: A senior officer with the Kedah Development Authority is facing two charges of soliciting sexual favours from single mothers if they wanted his help in getting approvals for low-cost homes.
Kedah administrative officer Heris Saad (pic), 56, initially pleaded guilty when he was charged in the Sessions Court at around 11am yesterday.
The court then stood down for Heris to engage a counsel and for sentencing.
However, about three hours later, he changed his plea to “not guilty” when the case was called up again.
Heris, who was not represented, was charged with committing the first offence at a KFC restaurant in Jalan Limbong Kapal here at about 10.45am on Nov 10.
He was charged under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
Herris was also charged with committing the second offence under Section 17(a) of the same Act at the Hotel Royale in Jalan Putra here at about 2.45pm, three days later. Both offences carry a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine.
MACC lawyer Mohd Firdaus [email protected] appeared for the prosecution. Sessions judge Azhar Mokhtar allowed Heris bail of RM8,000 in one surety for both cases. He paid the bail.
The court set Dec 2 for case mention.-thestar
