DAP to amend party constitution, sec-gen service limited to 3 terms

SUBANG JAYA: DAP will amend the party constitution to limit the service of the secretary-general to three terms.

Speaking at DAP’s 2014 Conference, the party’s current secretary-general Lim Guan Eng described the amendment to the party’s constitution as a “historic and progressive” move.

Lim, now in his third term as secretary-general, was elected in 2004. It was however unclear whether Lim would have another three terms or whether this would be his last term following the amendment

“The leadership also proposes that we will limit the serving term of state chairmans to three terms as well.”

In his policy speech, Lim also said that the party would increase the number of members in its central executive committee (CEC) and wanted women to hold 30 per cent of its posts.

“We propose that that we add 10 more members in the CEC from 20 to 30, and nine of them must be women.

“This is not only to show our commitment, but also to practise gender equality,” he said.
