Flood: Donation centre at Umno HQ

KUALA LUMPUR: The east coast flood donation centre will be at Menara Dato Onn, Umno’s headquarters, says Wanita Umno Chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil.

She said the centre will be operating daily starting today from 9am to 6pm.

The mission titled “Misi Sayang” by Squad Sayang, comprising of Umno, MIC and MCA, will be carried out as long as it’s needed.

Shahrizat added the mission will be split into two phases — first during the flood which will see supplies of essential items such as dry food, diapers and clothes sent to victims; and the second phase will focus on cleaning flood affected areas.

She said Squad Sayang will also be collecting donations from all Umno branches nationwide and called upon government-linked companies (GLCs), non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other bodies to join in on their mission.

“They (flood victims) have lost everything. I know many want to help but do not know how… So now you can come to our secretariat and drop your donations and items here.

“To set the ball rolling, Wanita Umno donated RM10,000 to the fund.

“We will be working with agencies like the army, police and JPAM to mobilise the supplies to affected areas, earliest hopefully by tomorrow evening,” she said.

Shahrizat said three more collection centres such as this will be opened at in Terengganu, Kelantan and Perak.

She said more than 200,000 Squad Sayang members were already at the flood relief centres helping out with the evacuation, including 3,000 members at the Kemaman evacuation centre.
