SUBANG JAYA, 8 January 2015 – PROTON Holdings Berhad (PROTON) would like to inform its customers that Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd, AmBank (M) Bhd and Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) have provided a moratorium of up to six months on affected customers’ monthly instalments or repayments and a one-off waiver relating to late payment or penalty charges.

This is in line with the recent announcements made by Bank Muamalat, AmBank and Maybank, respectively.

With the moratorium in place, affected Proton car owners and their families, particularly those who need to allocate their funds for their rebuilding efforts can now breathe a sigh of relief that they are able to take things one at a time during this post-flood period. Customers affected by the floods, however, would need to directly contact the respective banks and send in their request as soon as possible so that the banks are alerted of their situation and not impose any penalties for late repayment.

Dato’ Abdul Harith Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of PROTON welcomed this latest additional effort by these banks which is aimed at further reducing the suffering of PROTON customers affected by the floods.

“In line with PROTON’s Flood Relief programme, we initiate this call to inform our Proton car owners who have a car loan with these banks to contact the respective banks immediately as this would help lift one burden off their shoulders temporarily,” Dato’ Harith said.

“This kind gesture from these banks provides us a basis to discuss with other financial institutions to see if they are able to extend similar assistance to all affected Proton car owners. We shall update our customers when we have obtained good news from them,” Dato’ Harith added.

PROTON’s team of volunteers involving employees from the HQ and branches at the East Coast are currently on their second round of flood relief assistance on the field, under the Groupwide initiative by its parent company, DRB-HICOM. This time around from 7-9 January 2015, they will assist in the cleanup of schools in Tanah Merah, Kelantan and presentation of essential items in Temerloh, Pahang.
