Foreigners thrilled with Chinese New Year celebration

KUALA LUMPUR: Wisma MCA was swarmed with people from all walks of life as early as 8.30am to attend the Malaysian Chinese Association’s (MCA) Chinese New Year open house.

The public were greeted with a fascinating lion dance performances.

Foreigners were also seen captivated by the performances.

“It is exciting to see the multi racial community in Malaysia to come together to celebrate this occasion,” said Stratakis Charis, 60, as he, his wife and daughter stood watching the lions dancing and jumping from one pole to another.

Stratakis who is from Greece, is on a holiday for one week in the city and got to know about the celebration from a tourists information centre.

Mike Cyca, 35, from Canada said the lion dance was an eye opening experience.

“I love taking beautiful pictures and my co-worker recommended me to come to Wisma MCA today to witness this celebration and I totally enjoyed it,” said Cyca who was seen excitedly taking pictures of the lions.

Among those present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his wife Puan Sri Norainee Abdul Rahman, MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel, Sports and Youth Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
