Help transform MCA, Liow urges members

GEORGE TOWN: MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has urged party members to assist in the transformation of the party and to be prepared for the 14th general election.

“We must transform the party, and we must be prepared for the transformation.

“We must be prepared for the polls. We must stand up and win the support of the people,” he said when addressing party members at the Batu Kawan MCA division open house held at a seafood restaurant in Simpang Ampat, Nibong Tebal, yesterday.

“This is not a wake-up call but the last call to stand up to win the support of the people,” he added.

Liow described MCA as a party which promoted moderation, harmony and unity, and one which had done much for the country.

“The party has contributed a lot to the people in terms of economic progress and education.

“In economic terms, MCA will play a role by assisting small and medium enterprises to create a wider platform for investments and strengthen ties with investors from China in order to increase foreign direct investment and tourism in Malaysia.

“In education, MCA established Tunku Abdul Rahman University College and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, which have trained more than 200,000 students, contributing to human resource development and nation building,” said Liow.

At the celebration, Liow tossed yee sang with local party leaders and met grassroots members.

Also present were MCA vice-president and Penang MCA chief Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, Penang MCA deputy chairman Tan Teik Cheng and state MCA secretary Dr Tan Chuan Hong.

The leaders later got together with other party members at a function at the Bagan division headquarters in Butterworth.

About 150 people attended the festive buffet lunch that included lion dance performances.
