KUALA LUMPUR: Following is the condolence message on passing of Tan Sri Jamaluddin Jarjis from former Member of the United States Congress and Chairman of the US House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs’ Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific Eni F. H. Faleomavaega.
Eni F. H. Faleomavaega, former Member of the United States Congress and Chairman of the US House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs’ Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific, which has broad jurisdiction for US policy affecting the region, expressed his deepest condolences upon learning of the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the life of his dear and trusted friend, Tan Sri Jamaluddin Jarjis.
“Today, the sun has fallen from the sky. Malaysia and the United States have lost an irreplaceable friend and statesman. I have lost a brother,” Faleomavaega said.
“JJ and I worked together since 2009 when he was appointed Ambassador of Malaysia to the United States, and later Special Envoy. Having served in the US Congress for some 26 years, I can attest that JJ was special. JJ was an Ambassador’s Ambassador, an MP’s MP. He left a singular and extraordinary mark on US-Malaysia relations that enhanced our relationship in exceptional and matchless ways, and I thank Ambassador Awang Adek Hussin for informing me of our brother’s passing.”
“I personally mourn JJ’s passing and join with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in saying I am grief-stricken. I extend my deepest and heart-felt condolences to JJ’s wife and children and grandchildren, to his friends, as well as to the government and people of Malaysia, and to those JJ represented. JJ touched the lives of many and this is why I recognised his good works in the Congressional Record long before he ever left us.”
“If I were still a Member of Congress, I would pay tribute again in the Congressional Record because JJ’s name deserves to be held in the proceedings of the US House of Representatives, especially at this time. Nonetheless, I hold JJ’s name in my heart.”
“JJ left us too soon. But, like JJ, I am a believer. In my soul, I know his passing is not the end. JJ lives on, as we all will. Without a doubt, we will meet again and, until we do, may God be with us as we miss JJ already and love him still,” Faleomavaega concluded.-nst
