Govt to prioritise healthcare system: PM

PUTRAJAYA: The government plans to make Malaysia’s healthcare system a priority area to enhance competitiveness in the medical tourism market.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said Malaysia’s share of the medical tourism market has nearly doubled in the last four years with 770,000 patients and RM700 million revenue in 2014.

“This year, those figures are expected to rise further to 900,000 patients, bringing in revenue of RM1 billion,” he said at the launching of the book ‘Malaysian Medical Association 55 Years’, today.

He said Malaysia’s healthcare system recorded a top score out of 25 countries surveyed by an American publication – ahead of Spain, France, Ireland, and New Zealand.
