Nazri willing to be probed over ‘challenge’ to Johor Crown Prince

PETALING JAYA: Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz is willing to be investigated by police over his “challenge” to the Crown Prince of Johor, saying that he “is not above the law”.

“I am not above the law. We must allow for the process to go on. When there is a report by any member of the public, it is incumbent on the Inspector-General of Police to do his job,” Nazri said here yesterday.

He was responding to a statement by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar that he would be called up over his “challenge” to Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

Last Saturday, Nazri had told Tunku Ismail to stay out of politics unless he wanted to be subjected to the same rule and be “whacked”.

The royals, he said, should also keep out of politics because “we are the ones protecting royalty”.

He was referring to Tunku Ismail’s remark posted on the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page on June 5 against the Prime Minister for not attending a dialogue on national issues.

Tunku Ismail replied by uploading a silent video, showing him making a beckoning gesture.

Asked about the matter, Nazri said: “IGP is right to say that he must investigate.”

Last night, Nazri responded to another posting by the prince (see story below), saying he never claimed to be God.

“I am a Muslim. No Muslim will ever claim to be God. As a politician, I am not above criticism,” he said.

Nazri said, however, royalty were above politics and therefore should not hit at politicians.

Earlier, Khalid said the minister would be investigated for making a statement that could cause public alarm.

“Several police reports have been lodged against the minister. We will also record his (Nazri’s) statement,” he said.-thestar
