Ikal Mayang 2016 is looking for your ‘custom’ stories

KUALA LUMPUR: If you have a story to tell, Ikal Mayang wants to hear it! But do so by Friday. Try your chance on having your stories being selected to be made into one of Ikal Mayang 2016 short films.

Those interested can submit their stories through http://goo.gl/forms/kt8wzQddC0 or email WOMEN:girls at [email protected] for further information.

The closing date for entries is on July 31. The selected submission will be announced mid-next month.

In its fourth year, Ikal Mayang hopes to get people to tell their stories on “Custom” to be made into a two-minute short film and be part of one of the biggest storytelling movement in South East Asia which will be celebrated at the Ikal Mayang Festival in March next year.

Ikal Mayang is an initiative by WOMEN:girls to increase the share of women’s voice and to encourage more people to tell their stories and every year it is celebrated in conjunction with International Women’s Day on March 8.

A total of 49 stories have been presented through the Ikal Mayang platform since 2013 under three different themes, namely “Telling Women Stories”, “Unspoken Truths” and “Similarities”.

Continuing the new tradition started since Ikal Mayang 2015, it is now also opened for aspiring male storyteller and directors to tell their stories.

Among the directors who have been part of the movement include Adibah Noor, Wak Doyok, Lisa Surihani, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, Carmen Soo, Kavita Sidhu, Vince Chong, Junad M. Nor, Leia Al Joffery and Nora Nabila. For updates on the movement, visit www.facebook.com/WomenGirlsInspire or its Instagram @WomenGirls.
