Over 10kg meth worth RM2m seized

SEPANG: Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Customs Department seized 10.53kg of methamphetamine worth RM2 million in three smuggling attempts.

Two foreigners from India, both aged 28, had been arrested in connection to the cases. In the first case, the customs officers seized a parcel sent from Lagos from a courier service company in KLIA on July 13, where it contained an exhaust pipe.

Checks revealed that the pipe contained methamphetamine weighing 470g worth RM89,300. KLIA Customs director Datuk Chik Omar Chik Lim said the customs officers have yet to identify the sender and receiver of the parcel.

“The parcel was supposed to be sent to Klang. After the recipients failed to be contacted, the customs department confiscated the parcel.

“We are trying to trace the suspects through the phone number left on the parcel,” he told reporters at a press conference, today.

In the second case, two Indian nationals were detained at the KLIA2 arrival hall on the same day after customs detected a suspicious scanned image in their luggage.

Checks into two luggage bags from each suspect found methamphetamine hidden in a pile of clothes weighing 5.04kg and 5.02kg, respectively, worth RM1.9million.

“Investigations revealed that the suspects have entered the country more than 10 times for business-related reasons. They have been remanded for seven days.” he said.

The cases are being investigated under section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
