Police refuse to rule out conspiracy to topple PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have not ruled out a conspiracy to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the leak of classified documents to foreign nationals is a criminal act of serious nature.

“These materials are alleged to be from an unnamed Malaysian government investigation into 1MDB,” he said. It also raises national security implications, he said in a statement today.

“The Royal Malaysia Police have not eliminated the possibility of a conspiracy to subvert Malaysia’s democratic process and topple the Prime Minister,” he said.

Khalid said their objective in the investigations is to identify those who have leaked the material and determine whether the documents are genuine or have been doctored.

He said this was as in the case of Xavier Justo, who is being investigated by Thai authorities for black mail and extortion.

“Anyone found guilty of leaking or doctoring the said documents will face the full force of the law,” Khalid said.
