IPOH: A 24-year-old former security guard has been sentenced to death for the murder of the state deputy Veterinary Department director in 2011.

Syahmie Hassan was found guilty of murdering Dr Rohani Kasim, 38, at Blok F, First Floor, Persiaran Lembah Perpaduan, Permai Lake View di Ulu Kinta between 6pm and 7.30pm on 3rd August.

Judicial Commissioner Datuk Che Ruzima Ghazali said the accused did not deny he was the cause of the victim’s death.

“The defence also failed to prove that the accused was of unsound mind at the time of crime,” he said.

Syahmie was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Deputy Public Prosecutor Harris Ong Mohd Jeffery Ong while Syahnie was represented by Rafael Abdullah.
