SANDAKAN: The Children’s Wish Society Malaysia gave a surprise birthday present to cancer patient Mohd Wafiq Mohd Jeffry here recently.

The seven-year-old boy who is suffering from Pre B Acute lymphoblastic leukemia, was entertained by his favourite TV animated cartoon characters Upin and Ipin at his aunt’s house here on Thursday.

Wafiq also received a Upin and Ipin T-shirt and other gifts that were presented to him by the two animated characters themselves.

CWS Malaysia Vice President Teoh Teik Hoong and his team of volunteers as well as Wafiq’s father Mohamad Jeffry Silan, 30, helped him to try on the Upin and Ipin T-shirt before cutting the local cartoon character “Boboiboy” birthday cake.

Wafiq was first diagnosed in December 2012. He started chemotherapy and responded well initially.

However, while on maintenance chemotherapy he had his first relapse in his central nervous system in August 2014. He underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy. He had his second relapse this month.

CWS of Malaysia is a national charity dedicated to fulfilling the wishes of terminally-ill children nationwide. It raised funds from the public to help fulfill the favourite wish of a terminally ill child.

With every wish that CWS of Malaysia grant, it creates moments of joy that ease the pain of a child and give respite to the child’s family.

CWS has been actively fulfilling the wishes of terminally ill children in the country including Sabah since 2008.
